Kept ("we," "us," or "our") operates the kept.pet website and related services (the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Service.

By using the Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. If you choose to provide it, we may also collect your name and phone number as part of your care sheet content.

Pet Information. You provide information about your dog(s) through the Service, including but not limited to name, breed, age, weight, health conditions, medications, dietary restrictions, behavioral traits, veterinary contacts, emergency contacts, and photographs. This information is stored in your care sheet and may be shared via your public care sheet link.

Usage Data. We automatically collect certain information when you access the Service, including your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, access times, and device identifiers. This data helps us understand how the Service is used and improve its performance.

Cookies and Similar Technologies. We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze usage patterns. Essential cookies are required for the Service to function. You may disable non-essential cookies through your browser settings, though doing so may affect certain features of the Service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Operate, maintain, and provide the features of the Service
  • Create and display your dog care sheets to you and anyone you share them with
  • Authenticate your identity and secure your account
  • Communicate with you about your account, updates, and changes to the Service
  • Analyze usage trends to improve and develop the Service
  • Detect, prevent, and address technical issues, fraud, or abuse
  • Display relevant product recommendations and affiliate content
  • Comply with legal obligations

3. How We Share Your Information

Public Care Sheets. When you create a care sheet and share its link, the pet information and owner contact details you include are accessible to anyone with the link. You control what information you include and who you share the link with.

Service Providers. We share information with third-party service providers who perform services on our behalf, including hosting, data storage, and analytics. These providers are contractually obligated to use your information only as necessary to provide their services to us.

Legal Requirements. We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court order or government agency). We may also disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

Business Transfers. In the event of a merger, acquisition, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of all or a portion of our assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email and/or a prominent notice on our Service of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

4. Data Security

We implement commercially reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect the confidentiality and integrity of your information. These measures include encryption of data in transit and at rest, secure authentication mechanisms, and regular security assessments.

However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the Internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

5. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you the Service. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal, regulatory, or legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or enforcing our agreements).

Care sheet data associated with a deleted account will be permanently removed and will no longer be accessible via any previously shared links.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information. Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), California residents have the following rights:

  • Right to Know. You have the right to request that we disclose what personal information we have collected about you, the categories of sources from which it was collected, the business or commercial purpose for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.
  • Right to Delete. You have the right to request that we delete personal information we have collected from you, subject to certain exceptions.
  • Right to Opt-Out. You have the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information. We do not sell personal information. If we engage in sharing as defined under the CPRA, we will provide a mechanism to opt out.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination. You have the right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of your privacy rights.

You may also access, update, or delete your account information at any time through your dashboard.

7. Third-Party Services

The Service uses the following third-party services:

  • Supabase. We use Supabase for authentication, database hosting, and file storage. Supabase processes your data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
  • Vercel. We use Vercel for application hosting and deployment. Vercel may process server logs and usage data in accordance with its own privacy policy.
  • Affiliate Partners. We may display product recommendations from affiliate partners. If you click on an affiliate link and make a purchase, the affiliate partner may collect information about your transaction. We do not share your personal information with affiliate partners. Any data they collect is governed by their own privacy policies.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party services. We encourage you to review their privacy policies.

8. Cookies and Tracking

We use the following types of cookies:

  • Essential Cookies. Required for the Service to function, including authentication tokens and session management. These cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics Cookies. Used to understand how visitors interact with the Service, including page views and feature usage. This data is aggregated and anonymized where possible.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent. Note that disabling essential cookies will prevent you from using the Service.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Effective date" at the top. If the changes are significant, we will provide additional notice (such as via email).

Your continued use of the Service after any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of those changes.

11. Limitation of Liability

Kept is an information organization and sharing tool only. The Service is not a substitute for professional veterinary advice, diagnosis, or treatment. We do not provide medical, veterinary, or animal care advice.

We are not responsible or liable for any decisions made, actions taken, or outcomes that result from the use of information stored in or shared through the Service. This includes, without limitation, any injury, illness, or harm to any person or animal, or any loss or damage of any kind arising from reliance on care sheet content.

Users are solely responsible for the accuracy and completeness of the information they provide and for ensuring that their caretakers receive adequate instructions for their pets' care.
